At Faith Church of Sherman, our belief in divine healing is based on the firm foundation of God’s Word. God's healing promises originate in the Old Testament and continue through the New Testament. Throughout His ministry, Jesus and His disciples healed many people who were in need. Every person who approached Jesus for healing received it. Some were healed by the spoken Word, others when Jesus laid hands on them or when they acted in faith.
We recognize the gifts of healing are active and available in the church if we believe. That’s why we follow the Bible’s instruction when we are sick and call for the elders of the church to pray. We know through Jesus we have AUTHORITY over sickness and it is not God’s will for anyone to suffer with disease. God’s healing promises are readily available today.
Here are some of the many scriptures about healing in God’s Word:
But he [was] wounded for our transgressions, [he was] bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace [was] upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
Mark 2:4, 11-12
And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken [it] up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay. . . I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house. And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.
Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.
Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. And he took him by the right hand, and lifted [him] up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.
Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
